Welcome to the Global Neglected Tropical Diseases DatabaseThe Open Access Global NTD Database is an initiative launched by the EU funded project CONTRAST.We have created this open access database to help overcome the paucity of high-quality baseline data regarding the distribution of infection risk and burden of NTDs. Within CONTRAST focus lies on schistosomiasis, and most data entered in the database so far are schistosomiasis related records. Over time the database will be expanded to cover all NTDs. Our short-term goal is to include relevant information from the following six NTDs: ascariasis, hookworm infection, trichuriasis, lymphatic filariasis, onchocerciasis and trachoma. Data compilation started in Africa, but we are aiming for global coverage. |
|
The database currently contains geographically referenced parasite survey data from more than 5000 unique survey locations across Africa (S. mansoni, S. haematobium, S. bovis and S. intercalatum). The data contained in the database were obtained both from peer-reviewed publications and ‘grey literature’ using a standardized approach and directly from collaborators. Registered administrators can enter and edit data. As a user, all records can be searched using different selection criteria. We hope that the free access to the data (at their original spatial resolution) will help foster more research and better control of NTDs worldwide, and invite individuals in possession of prevalence or vector data to contribute their data to the database. |
